Portland Opera Guild is delighted to announce that two of the three winners of the October 12, 2014, Metropolitan Opera National Council (MONC) Auditions who advance to the regional competition in Seattle in January 2015, are Portland Opera Resident Artists soprano Katrina Galka and baritone Alexander Elliott. The third winner, Anne Maguire, is a wonderfully talented mezzo-soprano from Washougal, Washington. Alexander Elliott was also selected the Audience Favorite.

The judges also selected a record number of four Encouragement Award winners: Sisters Jena Viemeister (mezzo-soprano) and Anna Viemeister (soprano), Rebacca Sacks (mezzo-soprano) and Andres Zurita (baritone).

Congratulations to these oh-so-talented young artists. The Regional Auditions will be held Sunday, February 15, 2015 at 1:00 pm in the S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium in Benaroya Hall, Seattle, Washington. Don’t miss your opportunity to attend and support the Oregon District winners in their bid to compete in the MONC Semi-finals in New York on March 15, 2015.

Portland Opera Guild supports the Portland Opera Resident Artist Program, and dedicates our annual fund-raiser to the program. This year’s fund-raiser will be a rollicking Bootlegger’s Ball on April 4, 2015, at the Waverley Country Club in Portland.
